Raising Enrollment

This secret is out: Jewish schools are the place to be. Enrollment across the field continues to rise, as families—both parents and children—find their spiritual, intellectual and emotional homes in our schools. Since October 7, our schools serve as a haven where Jewish students don’t have to hide who they are or risk being attacked or ostracized. Once families are in the door, they want to stay, often asking why it took them so long to get there in the first place. They become not only committed members of the school community but ardent ambassadors as well.
About This Issue
Fall 2024 cover image

Over the past several years, the field of Jewish day schools has seen steady and significant growth. While some of the increase was influenced by Covid and by the October 7 attacks and their aftermath, the schools' appeal to new students derived from the excellence of their education, the warmth and inclusivity of their culture, and the strength of their leadership and faculty. This issue offers a broad survey of initiatives that have helped schools raise and manage their enrollment, including recruitment and retention.

The School Where I Never Expected to Be

Sometimes, the path to enrollment is clear and well trodden: parents, older children attended the school; the school reputation and family values perfectly aligned; friends all send their children to the same school. Other times, the path is not so obvious and foreordained. Here, parents describe their unusual paths to schools they fell in love with.
